The Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life (ISJL) has been named one of the nation’s 50 most innovative Jewish nonprofits in Slingshot 10-11, a resource guide for Jewish innovation. Slingshot, now in its sixth year, features organizations, leaders, and programs that have taken an innovative approach to addressing age-old concerns of identity and community in Jewish life today. This is the fifth year ISJL has been named in Slingshot!

Rabbi, author and martial artist Niles Elliot Goldstein will speak about his new book “The Challenge of the Soul: A Guide for the Spiritual Warrior” at two area Jewish congregations Oct. 23-24. The presentations are part of the Southern States Jewish Literary Series coordinated by the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life in Jackson, Mississippi.

9th Annual Jewish Cinema South Film Fest will fill screens in four cities
The ninth annual Jewish Cinema South: A Network of Jewish Film Festivals will be held in four Southern communities over the coming months: Mobile, Alabama, from Oct. 25-28, 2009; the North Carolina Triangle from Nov. 5-8, 2009; Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from Jan. 20-24, 2010; and Jackson, Mississippi, from Jan.21-24, 2010.
