About Rabbinical Services
An alarming number of southern congregations lack rabbinic leadership. The ISJL's Rabbinical Services Department helps fill that void by providing regional religious leadership and service. Rabbis on our own staff travel to communities to teach, officiate life cycle events, and lead worship services; they also offer ongoing support, study, Bar and Bat Mitzvah teaching and more via video conferencing and phone calls. In addition, we coordinate the Rabbis on the Road program, bringing rabbis from across the country to spend time in Southern Jewish communities.
In 2003, the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life announced the hiring of its first circuit-riding rabbi to assist small congregations in the Deep South. Ever since, the department has been dedicated to continuing our religious traditions wherever Jews may live. Learn more about the work of this department!
