When You Read, You Succeed.
The ISJL's Community Engagement Department identified literacy as one of the key issue areas we strive to address with our programming.
Read, Lead, Succeed is one program we have spearheaded to build literacy skills. This spring, we launched something new - the Literacy Achievement Bonanza, or LAB! It was a great success, with more than 100 students in grades 1-4 in the Jackson Public School District spending their Spring Break engaging in literacy-based activities explicitly designed to foster a positive relationship with reading while improving literacy skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) in age, skill, and developmentally appropriate methods aligned with Mississippi Common Core Standards.
