Who Should Come to the Education Conference?!
Return to Education Newsletter main page!
There are many different people you can send to the annual ISJL Education Conference! Some schools send one person each year, while other communities send five! It all depends on the unique abilities of each of our partner communities! But no amount of individuals is wrong (except zero)! Here are some of the things different attendees can get out of our conference:
The Rabbi: A spiritual leader is always a great addition to the conference! The education conference provides an opportunity for a Rabbi to gain a deeper understanding of what is going on in their synagogue’s religious school. At the conference, there are experimental min’yanim—outside the box prayer services that bring fun and learning to religious school t’filah.
The Teacher: The Education Conference is about education, so teachers are the perfect attendees! The conference offers tracks, like Hebrew and the Arts, to give insight into particular areas of the religious school. Every track provides take-home resources that teachers can bring back to their classrooms to engage their students.
The Education Director: Directors run the ship, making tons of decisions about what happens in a religious school. The conference allows them to see the inner workings of what the ISJL has to offer their religious school. It also gives them a chance to meet the Education fellows and see who they may work with in the future. And, if that is not enough, the Conference is also a place to network with other directors from similar areas and similar sizes.
The Community Member: General community members routinely only loosely connect to the religious school. By attending the Education Conference, community members can see all the ISJL has to offer, best illustrated by our study halls. Each study hall has two sessions where community members can learn more about the ISJL curriculum—from how to best work with Education Fellows to how to make the most use of the program bank.
The Volunteer: Many of the congregations that we work with are made up of people who generously volunteer their time to making sure that each of their students has access to an excellent Jewish education. At the Conference, volunteers can attend wildcard sessions with leading Jewish thinkers about a variety of different topics that are relevant to contemporary Jewish life. The leaders of the wildcard programs are leading experts in their field of the Jewish world and teach on a wide variety of topics.
The Parent: Parents are the ones making the commitment to send their children to religious school day after day! They may even be the teachers or organizers! The conference is a great place to learn more about what our kids learn with the ISJL Education Program. And, just like any conference, there are innovative keynote speakers and sessions to attend with the foremost thinkers of the Jewish professional field.
Whoever you are and whatever your connection to your religious school is you are going to find a lot to learn at the ISJL education conference that you can bring to your community.
