The December DilemmaThe word “dilemma” derives its origins from the 16th century, when someone wanted to say there was a choice between two undesirable alternatives.
When we mention “the December Dilemma,” it is not really a comparison of two negative options, but rather refers to the myriad of situations we must tackle when faced with the overwhelming abundance of Christmas cheer as a minority religious population. How do we keep our own holiday front and center for our own families, without simply caving in to the competition and embracing a full-out commercialism version of Chanukah?
